Centre Germany
The ITI is a competence centre for international theatre work and a cultural-political mediator for artistic practitioners.
The Centre of the Federal Republic of Germany of the International Theatre Institute (ITI) is part of the International Theatre Institute. It is composed of individual and corporate members and, as a non-profit association in Germany, receives public funding for its projects. The office is based in Berlin. As an advocacy body and information centre for the performing arts, we are committed to their free development and to preserving the diversity of their forms of expression.
We foster international collaboration among artists and are actively engaged, both nationally and internationally, in initiatives, associations, and committees that defend their rights. In our work, we initiate and accompany exchanges between scholarship and practice in the performing arts. Our information portals, publications, and media library provide public access to this knowledge. Our network brings together theatre artists as well as representatives of associations and institutions from all areas of the performing arts. We also represent the world association at UNESCO in the Intergovernmental Committee for the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.
The ITI – German Centre provides and organizes consulting, festivals, symposia, professional encounters, and publications on the performing arts in national and international contexts, as well as participation in national and international committees. It is also the organizer of Theater der Welt, one of the largest international festivals of the performing arts in Germany.
The ITI – German Centre develops its own projects in the fields of theatre and dance, cultural education, cultural heritage, and the cultural and creative industries. In addition, it serves as an information and documentation centre for the performing arts in Germany.
